When it looks like your writing is gone, start here

Take a breath. 🫁 ObsiKO does not quietly throw away what you wrote. Most of the situations below aren't "gone" — they're "somewhere else." Find the case closest to yours and follow it step by step.

🔎 You can open this page any time from the command palette (⌘P) by typing emergency.

🗑️ I deleted a note by mistake

It's almost certainly still in the trash. ObsiKO doesn't erase files outright — it moves them to a trash folder inside your vault.

Open Trash (from the bottom of the sidebar, or type trash in the command palette).
Find the file in the list and press Restore. It goes back where it was.

⏳ If you turned on auto-empty trash, files past the deadline may already be gone (check Settings ▸ Storage). Consider a generous window — or leaving it off.

↩️ What I just wrote disappeared / reverted

Try ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z) first. Most in-editor mishaps end right here.

If undo doesn't bring it back, open Version history. ObsiKO keeps earlier snapshots of each note every time it saves.

Open the Version history panel in the right sidebar.
Step back through time, check the preview, and press Restore at the point you want.

💡 Restoring keeps your current text as a new version too. If you don't like the result, you can jump right back to the latest point.

🤖 The AI changed my note

When AI edits files, ObsiKO records it as one run you can undo as a whole.

Open the Change history panel in the right sidebar.
Expand the run — it shows exactly what changed in each file, line by line.
Revert one file or the entire run.

💾 It says "couldn't save"

When a save fails, ObsiKO does not clear your editor. What you just wrote is still on screen.

Make a safety copy first. Select all (⌘A) and copy (⌘C) — now it can't be lost no matter what.
Check the usual causes: - The vault folder was moved or renamed → pick it again with Open Folder - The cloud hasn't downloaded that file yet → wait a moment and retry (while online) - Out of storage / no write permission for that folder
If it still fails, use Export to save the current text somewhere else.

☁️ It says my edits conflict with another device

When several devices share one cloud folder, the same note can be edited on both sides. A small banner appears at the top.

✨ Try [Merge] first. "Keep mine" and "Take theirs" both mean throwing one side's work away. Merge keeps everything from parts you edited in different places, and only asks about the spots you changed differently.

📂 My vault won't open / it asks for the folder every launch

Did you move or rename the folder? The remembered location no longer matches. Pick it once with Open Folder and it'll stick again.
On iPhone/iPad with a cloud folder, the cloud may not have the folder ready yet. Wait a moment and relaunch.
Some browsers don't allow folder access at all. There, files live inside the browser — finish writing and then use Export to save them where you want.

☁️ A file shows a cloud icon (☁️) and looks empty

The cloud (iCloud and friends) has temporarily offloaded the file's contents to save space. The file itself is fine.

Just open it — it downloads again automatically. (You need to be online.)
To fetch everything ahead of time: Settings ▸ Convenience ▸ Download entire vault.
To keep it that way: turn on Keep downloaded in the same place.

📱 The app restarted by itself on my phone/tablet

The device ran low on memory and only the screen was rebuilt. Your writing was already autosaved.

It's most likely on a big mind map with lots of drawing, or many very large photos. Splitting a heavy canvas into files helps.
On relaunch, your tabs and even your cursor position come back.

⌨️ Korean input drops characters / the cursor jumps

This is the part ObsiKO works hardest on, so please tell us if it happens.

First, quit and relaunch the app completely. That clears most cases.
If it only happens in one note, note which line (inside a table? a formula? next to a highlight?).
Then email support@obsiko.com with your device and keyboard. If we can reproduce it, we can fix it.

🧯 When nothing works — protect the text first

Whatever the cause, not losing what you wrote comes first. In this order:

Select all (⌘A) → copy (⌘C) → paste anywhere (notes app, an email draft…)
Export to PDF, HTML, or a ZIP of the originals
Then go looking for the cause
