15-1 Review & Rediscovery 🎴🔁

So you don't forget what you wrote down, and so buried notes find their way back to you. Piling up notes matters — but pulling them back out matters just as much.

You can write all the notes you want, but if you never look at them again, they may as well not exist. 😅 ObsiKO helps in two ways — ① turn what you want to remember into cards, and ② surface the notes you'd forgotten about.

Neither one needs a separate app, and neither one needs learning. It's just your notes, as they already are. 😊

1️⃣ Making a review card — one right-click ✂️

Select the bit you want to remember, then right-click (long-press on mobile) → 'Make a review card'. That's it!

Pick one of three:

What you pick	What you get	When to use it
Fill-in-the-blank	The text you picked gets hidden, and you have to recall it	A word, year, or name inside a sentence
Question / answer card	Front → back, a one-way card	"What does this mean?" — anything with a fixed direction
Both directions	Front→back and back→front, two cards at once	Word-and-meaning pairs where you need both ways

Selected two lines? The first line becomes the question, the rest becomes the answer.
Make a card with nothing selected and you get an empty card template to fill in.
You can also run 'Make a review card' from the command palette (⌘P). → Search & Navigation

🏷️ The tag is added for you. Review cards are only picked up from notes tagged #flashcards. So the first time you make a card, if the tag is missing, ObsiKO quietly adds it — no more making cards and then wondering why they never show up! 😉

If you'd rather type it yourself

For the curious (you really don't need this!) — write it like this and it becomes a card.

⚠️ Worth knowing if you highlight a lot. Since ==text== also reads as a blank, a highlight you drew purely for emphasis can get picked up as a fill-in-the-blank card inside a note tagged #flashcards. (Highlights in any other note never become cards, so rest easy! Colored highlights and PDF quotes are treated as "records" and left out of cards too.) If an unwanted card appears, just unwind it with Remove review card below.

Your text doesn't get cluttered ✨

Making cards doesn't turn your writing into a pile of symbols. ObsiKO tucks it away neatly for you. - :: shows as →, and ::: shows as ⇄. - Blanks show as a dotted underline. - The review schedule is completely invisible. - Need to edit it? Just put your cursor on that line and the original comes right back.

2️⃣ Reviewing 🎴

The 'Review' card on your Dashboard shows how many are due today, and Start review kicks it off. ('Start review' in the command palette does the same.)

Cards come one at a time. Curious about the answer? Tap to see the answer (or Space/Enter).
Once the answer is showing, four buttons appear — Again · Hard · Good · Easy (keys 1–4).
Each button tells you when you'll see it next, like "in 3 days". Nothing to agonize over! 😄
A card you marked Again comes back once more at the end of today's round.
Open note under the card takes you to the original, and Stop lets you quit any time (whatever you got through is saved).

💡 No decks, no settings, no statistics. Cards you know well quietly show up less often; the ones that trip you up come back sooner. All you do is press one of four buttons. (For those who like to know: the intervals are calculated with FSRS, a well-established method.)

I don't want to see this card anymore

Press 'Stop reviewing this' in the review window, or
Put your cursor on that line in the note and right-click → 'Remove review card'.

Your text is not deleted! Only the card markup is unwound — {{1443}} becomes 1443, ==1443== also becomes 1443 (the highlight comes off with it), and front::back becomes a tidy front: back. 😌

3️⃣ Your progress lives inside the note 📁

Your review progress isn't stored anywhere else. It sits quietly inside that note file (hidden from view on screen).

Which is rather nice, because —

Move just that one file and your review history comes with it. Back it up and your progress is backed up too.
Obsidian can pick up right where you left off — it's the same format the Spaced Repetition plugin uses, so you can go back and forth between them.
No account, no server, no separate database. Your file is your record! 💪

4️⃣ Today's rediscovery 🔁

This one isn't about memorizing — it's about "oh right, I had a note about this!"

The 'Today's rediscovery' card on your Dashboard picks 5 buried notes and, importantly, tells you why it picked each one.

Reason chip	What it means
not connected to anything	A loner note — no links in, no links out
nothing links here	No other note points to this one
no outgoing links	This note doesn't reach out to anything
reviewed N days ago	It's been a while since you last dealt with it
untouched for N days	You haven't touched it in a long time

Tap a note to open it, and once you've dealt with it, hit ✓. Today's date gets stamped and it drops off the list.
The list stays put for the whole day, so take your time. It rolls over when the date changes.
Notes you've seen in the last two weeks and notes you've pinned are left out from the start.

🤝 It won't nag you. This is a suggestion, not a cleanup policy. ObsiKO will never move, delete, or re-link your notes on its own. It only records something when you press ✓.

And "how many days since you edited it" counts only weakly — a note you haven't touched but that's linked from all over is a perfectly healthy note. What matters far more is whether it's connected at all.

💡 This is a different card from 'a blast-from-the-past note' (one of the AI cards in the hidden tray). That one is for reminiscing; this one points at notes that look like they need some attention.
